Lakeside Animal Hospital does not perform declawing procedures. Dr. Martin and the staff at Lakeside feel very passionate about this issue. Declawing is a painful procedure that involves amputation of the last joint of your cat’s “toes”. It is considered illegal and inhumane in most European countries, and 8 US cities. Luckily there are many alternatives available to declawing, including behavioural management and aversion methods. One of the best alternatives is a product called SoftPaws. SoftPaws are lightweight vinyl caps that are glued to your cat’s claws. They are furniture savers!! And are great for households with small children. They come in clear, or a variety of colours (even sparkly ones!). They last for up to 6 weeks.
